The restoration of the frescoes of the Transfiguration Church in Polotsk will continue for several more years

April 25, Minsk /Corr. BELTA/. The restoration of the frescoes of the Savior-Transfiguration Church in Polotsk will continue for several more years, said the Chairman of the Polotsk City Executive Committee Alexander Poznyak at an online conference on the BELTA website. "Work has already been done above the altar of the church. In the right and left wings, about 50% of everything is done. There is still work to be done, I think, for several years. But there is a pleasant feature in this. When tourists come, they see not just finished frescoes, but also how the work on them is progressing," said Alexander Poznyak. He also recalled that work on the frescoes has been ongoing since 2008. "The work is very meticulous. You cannot make mistakes here, because this pricelessness can simply disappear forever as a result of a careless movement," he said. The mayor of Polotsk added that a branch of the organization "Belrestavratsiya" has been carrying out research work on the reconstruction of the church itself, not just the frescoes, since the end of 2011. The work is expected to be completed next year. "I think that this comprehensive approach will later allow everyone to enjoy the priceless monument of history and culture of our country. By the way, the restoration of the frescoes of this church is included in the State Investment Program of Belarus for this year, as well as in the comprehensive program "Culture of Belarus," noted Alexander Poznyak. -0-
