Residents of FEZ "Vitebsk" need to increase their technical potential - expert

February 17, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. Residents of FEZ "Vitebsk" need to increase their technical potential. This opinion was expressed today by the Deputy Chairman of the Economics Committee of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee Konstantin Cherny at a briefing dedicated to the results of the foreign economic activity of the Vitebsk region in 2010, according to a BELTA correspondent. According to Konstantin Cherny, last year the share of export supplies of FEZ "Vitebsk" organizations in the total export volume of the Vitebsk region was slightly more than 8%, while earlier it reached 60%-50%. "The low performance of residents indicates, first of all, the mismatch of their technical level with today's requirements and once again shows that it is impossible to work effectively solely on benefits and preferences, especially in the foreign market," he stated. The Deputy Chairman of the committee also emphasized the importance of timely modernization. "There is no guarantee that tomorrow a similar enterprise of a higher level and with more competitive products will not appear in the region that interests you and will not occupy this niche. Business is business," he stressed. Regarding the work of departmental and non-departmental enterprises, Konstantin Cherny noted the need to increase the depth of raw material processing. "Yes, due to high competition, it is more difficult to sell finished products, but their cost will be many times higher than raw materials or semi-finished products and, accordingly, will bring more profit," he emphasized. "An important factor in the work of enterprises is also their flexibility, mobility, and ability to quickly respond to market demands." 37 residents are registered in the FEZ "Vitebsk", of which only 27 supply products to the foreign market. The gross volume is dominated by the food, veterinary, and light industries. -0-
