The European Parliament's resolution on Belarus is one-sided, biased and short-sighted - MFA

March 11, Minsk /Corr. BELTA/. The resolution on Belarus adopted by the European Parliament yesterday is one-sided, biased and short-sighted. This is stated in a comment by the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, BELTA reports. "If the European Parliament wanted to make a constructive contribution to finding ways to resolve disagreements between neighbors, then the means chosen are clearly unsuccessful both in content and in timing," the MFA press service states. The comment says: "Firstly, the resolution has nothing to do with the real picture regarding the situation of national minorities in Belarus. This will be confirmed by Belarusian citizens, including those of Polish origin. This is also obvious to any unbiased foreign observer. Secondly, the adoption of the resolution occurs at a time when the dialogue between Belarus and Poland on certain sensitive issues of Belarusian-Polish relations is intensifying. What is this: a "bear's service" or an attempt to disrupt this dialogue by those forces that do not seem to be interested in it?" "Belarus, for its part, also has many concerns, including the ban on entry into Poland and, consequently, the Schengen zone for a number of Belarusian citizens of Polish origin, and the actions of the Polish side regarding the issuance of the "Pole's Card", however, we are trying to discuss them directly with Poland, without involving international structures in these discussions," the comment notes. Thirdly, by acting with such methods on the thin ice of interethnic relations, the European Parliament risks opening "Pandora's box" with unpredictable consequences both within and outside the European Union. "For the future, we would like such a solid organization as the European Parliament to take a more balanced and responsible position, especially in the sphere of national minorities, and not to succumb to petty intrigues of individual apprentices of politics," the comment by the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs states. -0-
