Parental University – this is a new form of work with problematic families that has appeared in the Territorial Center for Social Services of the Miory District.
From now on, adults will be taught how to properly raise children, as well as objectively assess their relationships with them. Last Friday, the first session of the parental university, titled "Your Child's Happiness is Family Well-being," was held at the TSSON.
As Tatiana Shulga, Head of the Department of Social Adaptation and Rehabilitation and Day Care for Disabled Persons, explained, preparations for this began last year. Center employees visited families with low parenting potential, offering advice on how to create necessary living conditions for a child, better arrange their workspace, and organize leisure activities. At the same time, adults were informed that in 2013, they would be welcomed at an unusual university where no one would be reprimanded or punished with bad grades, but only taught and helped.
At the first session, attendees received a lot of useful information and answered questions in the "What Kind of Parents Are You?" test. This prompted them to reflect on their relationships with their children. Then, the participants discussed the 10 commandments for parents. In the future, it is planned not only to organize sessions in Miory itself but also to hold outreach meetings in rural areas, where there are also many families facing challenges.
