The role of veterans in public life is only growing with the years - the mayor of Vitebsk

May 5, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. Veterans of the Great Patriotic War were honored today at the Vitebsk City Executive Committee, a BELTA correspondent reports. About 40 people became the heroes of the festive event dedicated to Victory Day. These are participants of combat operations of various fronts, partisans, medical unit workers, home front workers, former underage prisoners of concentration camps. Congratulating the veterans on the holiday, the Chairman of the Vitebsk City Executive Committee Viktor Nikolaikin noted the significance of each of their contributions to the Great Victory. "Your role in public life today is no less significant. Only veterans, as direct eyewitnesses of the past war, can tell the youth today the truth about the years of military hardship and the immense price that Belarusians had to pay for peace above their heads. Therefore, it is so important that, despite your age, you continue this important work," the city mayor emphasized. Noting the successes in the development of the regional center in recent years, Viktor Nikolaikin focused on the modernization and reconstruction that is currently being carried out in many healthcare institutions in the city. This year, more than Br20 billion has already been allocated for these purposes. For example, reconstruction work is in full swing on the therapeutic building of the Vitebsk City Emergency Hospital. Hospitals on Kommunisticheskaya and M. Gorky streets, and a children's polyclinic on Chkalova street will acquire a new look in the near future. New multidisciplinary medical centers will appear in the microdistricts of Yug-7 and Bilevo-2. The renovation of other healthcare facilities in Vitebsk will continue. Festive events in honor of May 9, which started today in the regional center, will continue with a large evening concert at the Summer Amphitheater. -0-
