Russians are buying purebred horses in the Gluboksky district
May 3, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. Russians are buying purebred horses in the Glubokoye district. One of the first to feel the interest of foreign buyers was Zolotaya Podkova OJSC, Natalia Butylskaya, chief zootechnician of the horse breeding farm and coach of the Olympic Reserve Center for Equestrian Sports (show jumping) in Barani, told a BELTA correspondent.
Along with crop production and dairy farming, Zolotaya Podkova has been engaged in horse breeding for over two decades. Currently, the farm keeps 86 horses of various breeds, including sport, work, and meat breeds. They breed Hanoverian, Latvian riding, Russian heavy draft, and Belarusian harness horses. In recent years, the profitability of horse sales has reached 28%, and profits have increased to Br30 million.
Zolotaya Podkova felt increased demand for horses in the fall of last year, when 34 horses were sold profitably. Heavy draft horses are sought after by private buyers and representatives of specialized farms from the Baltic states, Russia, and Belarus. This year, Russians have placed an order for fifteen Belarusian harness horses, asking to select them by a specific color. According to Natalia Butylskaya, they would have bought more, but Zolotaya Podkova intends to replenish its own herd.
Thoroughbred racehorses are in high demand among buyers. However, the farm does not intend to sell them yet, as the horses are needed for the local equestrian school. The results of its students, most of whom are children living on the farm's territory, are known far beyond the district. Two candidates for master of sports in equestrian sports are training here. Several of Natalia Butylskaya's trainees have successfully graduated from universities, become equestrian sports coaches themselves, and now work at the Republican Center for Olympic Training in Equestrian Sports and Horse Breeding in Ratomka.
Zolotaya Podkova is not afraid of competitors and shares not only its experience but also its purebred breeding stock with other farms in the district. For example, their closest neighbors, thanks to such support, managed to cover their losses in two years and decided to create an equestrian school for local children. -0-
