Russian investors plan to build a logistics terminal on the border of the Eurasian Economic Union and the European Union in the Verkhnedvinsk district

March 21, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. Russian investors intend to build a customs and logistics terminal on the border of the Customs Union (CU) with Latvia in the Verkhnedvinsk district. This was announced to a BELTA correspondent by Oleg Matskevich, Deputy Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee. The creation of the Customs Union of Belarus, Kazakhstan and Russia and the upcoming relocation of CU control to the external borders by July 1, 2011, will contribute to the increased importance of the international road checkpoint "Grigorovshchina" (Verkhnedvinsk district). In this regard, Russian investors have shown interest in creating a customs and logistics terminal here. According to Oleg Matskevich, the investor will be a well-known company with experience in creating customs and logistics terminals on the border of the Russian Federation and Latvia in the Pskov region. It is ready to build facilities with engineering infrastructure, which would house customs services and temporary storage warehouses. According to preliminary estimates, the investment volume will amount to $10-12 million. The site for the terminal has been determined, and technical refinement of the project is currently underway. As the deputy chairman of the regional executive committee noted, the creation of such a terminal will contribute to the increase of transport transit flows through the Verkhnedvinsk district, which will positively affect the economy of the border region. The customs and logistics terminal in Grigorovshchina is not the only project in the field of freight transportation that has attracted the attention of Russian investors in the Vitebsk region. Negotiations are currently underway to create a logistics center at Vitebsk Airport with a total investment volume of $50 million.
