Russian participants of the "Soldier's Scarf" campaign became guests of celebrations in Vitebsk
June 3, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. Russian participants of the "Soldier's Scarf" event became guests of the celebrations on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders in Vitebsk, the Ideological Work Department of the Vitebsk City Executive Committee informed a BELTA correspondent.
Youth and veterans from Mordovia, 2,000 natives of which died defending the Vitebsk land, arrived in the regional center to celebrate a significant date in the country's history together with the Belarusian people. They brought with them a piece of Mordovian land to pour on the graves where their countrymen rest, and a banner with the names of natives of Mordovia who died in Belarus during the war.
Delegations from the Smolensk and Leningrad regions, representatives of veteran and youth organizations of Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Latvia are celebrating the holiday together with Vitebsk residents.
All of them became spectators of a stunning military-theatrical procession, which opened the festive celebrations in the regional center. For the first time, these events are held not only under the state flag but also under the recently approved flags of Vitebsk and the region. The troops of the Vitebsk garrison demonstrated their combat training and precise marching. They were followed by representatives of the labor collectives of the regional center. Performances by children's creative groups evoked joy and tears of tenderness in the eyes of veterans. The procession of newlyweds, led by the "golden couple" of Vitebsk - Zinaida and Vasily Batychko, who have lived in peace and harmony for fifty years and recently celebrated their golden wedding anniversary, was solemn and touching.
Throughout the day, Vitebsk will be spinning in a festive whirlwind. Trade fairs, a water festival, and performances by amateur and professional creative groups await the city's residents and guests. The event will conclude with the city-wide campaign "Let's Sing the Anthem Together." -0-
