The Rosson district was the first in the Vitebsk region to complete the harvesting of fodder corn

September 7, Vitebsk / Sergey Kochetov - BELTA /. The Rossony district was the first in the Vitebsk region to complete the harvesting of fodder corn, the Vitebsk Oblast Executive Committee's Agriculture and Food Department informed a BELTA correspondent. As of the morning of September 7, corn in the region has been harvested on 47.3 thousand hectares (58.3% of the plan) with an average yield of 237.7 centners per hectare. Farms in the Gorodok and Liozno districts are close to completing this work, with less than 10% of the areas allocated for fodder crops remaining to be harvested. Taking into account the second cutting of grasses, more than 967.5 thousand tons of fodder units have been harvested in the region, which is 20% more than the fodder harvesting indicator for the same period in 2009. The provision per conventional head of cattle is almost 21 centners of fodder units. The sowing of winter crops is gaining momentum in the region, which until recently was hampered by excessive soil over-moistening in the western districts. More than 46.3 thousand hectares have been sown, or 18.5% of the plan, including about 38 thousand hectares with wheat and almost 2.8 thousand hectares with triticale. To complete the sowing campaign within the optimal timeframe, it is necessary to sow about 5% of the areas daily, specialists noted. To this end, work in the winter field is carried out in two shifts, and farms are working around the clock plowing the soil. In total, about 173.5 thousand hectares have been plowed for winter sowing (70% of the plan). In addition, special attention is paid to the technology of sowing operations. The regional agricultural department conducted training and certification of agronomists at the agricultural organizations of the Orsha district, specialists added. -0-
