Given the low positive daytime temperatures and night frosts, ice cover on most of the region's rivers still persists. However, water levels are insignificantly but gradually rising, increasing by 1 cm to 11 cm per day. The ice thickness on the Western Dvina ranges from 35 cm to 48 cm, and on its tributaries - from 30 cm to 41 cm. "This is quite a lot. However, it should be taken into account that on many rivers, water has appeared on the ice, there are washouts and cracks, which makes it very dangerous," specialists emphasized.

The active breakup of rivers in the Vitebsk region is expected in the second decade of April. Considering the accumulated water reserves in the snow, water levels are predicted to be above the average long-term values.

Currently, the flood situation in the region is developing calmly. No flooding or other incidents related to spring processes have been registered, the Vitebsk Regional Department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations emphasized, noting that all services in the region are ready to handle the flood.
