Rudakovskie tomatoes and cucumbers are bought not only in stores, but also at electronic auctions
The produce of the Rudakovo OAO greenhouse complex in the Vitebsk region does not stay in stock for long. This and much more was learned by the veterans of the agro-industrial complex of the Vitebsk region during an excursion organized by the Committee for Agriculture and Food of the Regional Executive Committee.
Raisa Krupatina, who still heads one of the important divisions of the agricultural enterprise, stood at the origins of the Rudakovo greenhouse farm. The first greenhouses were built in 1976 (part of them on an area of 3 hectares continue to operate), and the produce entered trade in 1977. New energy-saving greenhouses with a height of 4-4.5 m and 6 m are located on 18 hectares; for heat saving, each block is equipped with an autonomous boiler room. The company's own mini-CHP plant provides the complex with electricity.
– We have never worked poorly, – says Raisa Ivanovna. – We have always been among the top three leaders in Belarus, and we are still trying to maintain our position, obtaining 60 kg of produce per 1 sq. m per year.
Recalling the Soviet times, Raisa Krupatina noted that at that time, vegetable growers, who received 30 kg from 1 sq. m, were participants in the VDNKh exhibition, and were awarded medals and valuable gifts. Now, such yields would lead to ruin.
“Are there many nitrates in your vegetables?” – the veterans asked. The head of the greenhouse farm guaranteed the quality of the produce at any time of the year; sanitary services strictly monitor it.
Over the past 10 years, tomatoes, cucumbers, and greens from Rudakovo have not been lying in stock, but are sold almost directly from the garden beds through electronic trading conducted by the sales department.
The excursion participants were surprised by the fact that tomatoes grow almost all year round and bear fruit from early April to mid-November. Cucumbers are planted in two cycles. Despite the fact that the work of greenhouse workers is quite hard, the team is stable, and there is no staff turnover. Many young specialists have joined recently, and all of them have been provided with housing.
When the greenhouses were being built in Rudakovo, Vasily Trofimenko worked as the First Secretary of the Vitebsk District Committee of the Communist Party of Belarus. Of course, modern production cannot be compared with the past. But, according to Vasily Sergeevich, the responsibility of the staff remains at a high level, which contributes tofurther improvement.
