The leadership of the Vitebsk region is participating in the reconstruction of the "Breakthrough" memorial
"This good tradition was established by previous generations," Nikolai Sherstnev emphasized. - The leadership of the Vitebsk region, together with deputies and residents of the Ushachi district, is participating today in an important, sacred cause for the Vitebsk region - the reconstruction of the "Proryv" memorial. This is a tribute to the fallen, a tribute to the resilience and courage of the partisans. It is an honor for us to take part in such a worthy cause. Large-scale reconstruction is underway at the memorial. It will become more modern and will be improved. We are grateful to everyone who participated in the subbotnik today for their initiative and for the funds that will be transferred by enterprises and organizations. We plan to open this facility by May 9th."
The governor familiarized himself with the progress of the reconstruction and took part in the landscaping of the memorial's territory, planting several trees on a new alley consisting of maples, birches, and lindens. The decision to reconstruct and restore the "Proryv" memorial was made in 2015. This issue is under the personal control of the regional leadership. The Scientific and Methodological Council of the Ministry of Culture approved one of the authors of the memorial complex, the renowned Belarusian architect Yuri Gradov, as the scientific supervisor of the restoration work at the site, who
simultaneously with the restoration work, could carry out author's supervision of the memorial.Work worth over Br3.5 billion has already been completed at "Proryv". The facility is financed by funds from the republican subbotnik held on April 18, 2015, as well as budgetary and sponsorship resources. Representatives of the public and work collectives are actively participating in the restoration and recovery efforts. Restoration of concrete blocks and the partisan figure has already been completed. Currently, landscaping of the approaches to the memorial and replacement of some outdated concrete structures are underway. In addition, a well-equipped parking lot and sidewalks along the road to the site will appear near the memorial (outside the complex's protection zone). Decorative lighting will be installed at the complex itself.
The
"Proryv" memorial complex, a symbol of the courage and resilience of partisans
during the Great Patriotic War, is considered one of the most significant
creations of monumental art in the BSSR. It was opened in June 1974, at the site
of the breakthrough of the enemy blockade by partisans of the Polotsk-Lepel zone
on May 5, 1944, 7 km from Ushachi. Here, 16 partisan brigades led by the future
Hero of the Soviet Union Vladimir Lobanok broke out of the encirclement and
fought against punitive detachments until the arrival of Soviet Army units.
Along with the partisans, over 15,000 civilians were also able to liberate
themselves.
