The leadership of the Vitebsk region congratulates the residents of the region on Victory Day
Dear residents of the region!
We sincerely congratulate you on the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory!
This sacred day, May 9, 1945, is forever inscribed in the history of our country as a symbol of the unbreakable spirit, courage, and heroism of the Soviet people in the fight against fascism. We bow our heads to the memory of those who gave their lives in major battles, in battles on nameless heights, who forged victory in the rear, who showed unparalleled resilience and faith in Victory. Their feat is a vivid example of cohesion, unity, and an unshakeable spirit of resistance that helped them withstand the hardest years of the war.
The Belarusian people know the price of peace, as there is no family in the country that has not been touched by those terrible events. The Vitebsk region lost every third resident during the war.
On the territory of the region, there are more than two and a half thousand memorial complexes, places of military glory, and burials of war victims, which we annually improve and maintain in proper condition.
The memory of the heroic past, of the severe trials experienced, obliges us to strengthen national defense capability, preserve the sovereignty of the state, and protect its independence.
It is our duty to preserve the truth about the Great Patriotic War, about the legendary feat of the Soviet people!
We sincerely wish you, dear countrymen, health, peace, happiness, well-being, high spirits, and kindness!
Sincerely,
Alexander Subbotin, Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee
Dmitry Demidov, Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Council of Deputies.
