Knights are returning to Polotsk again – for the medieval culture festival "Rubon".
June 7, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. Knights are returning to Polotsk for the medieval culture festival "Rubon". For the third time, the ancient city, the current cultural capital of Belarus, will hospitably welcome participants from historical reconstruction clubs from all over the country, told BELTA correspondent, head of the culture department of the Polotsk City Executive Committee, Inna Shakhovich.
More than 30 associations of medieval history enthusiasts have sent in applications for participation. For two days, from June 12 to 13, near the walls of the St. Sophia Cathedral, they will not only demonstrate their costumes and armor but also show their mastery of archery and spear throwing, participate in buhurts - knightly duels, treat everyone to medieval cuisine, and also arrange equestrian demonstrations and stage scenes from medieval life. For the first time, festival participants will present a plastic performance "Trial by Fire," where torches will also play their part. All day long, bards and skalds will entertain the esteemed audience with their songs, and at the festival's closing, the group "Stary Olsa" will join them.
The culmination of the celebration will be the audience's and participants' favorite entertainment – the storming of the castle. Despite the fact that the current festival is dedicated to the 600th anniversary of the Battle of Grunwald, the organizers do not plan to reconstruct any battles. Some participants will have to capture the castle, while others will have to defend its walls and not surrender their banner to the enemy.
According to Inna Shakhovich, despite the fact that "Rubon" is a young festival, an increasing number of both participants and spectators are showing interest in it. This year, for the first time, admission to the festival grounds will be paid – Br4 thousand, while admission for children under 10 years old will remain free.
The festival is organized by the culture department of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, the Polotsk City Executive Committee, and the culture department of the Polotsk City Executive Committee. -0-
