Veterans and public activists initiated the installation of a monument to a paratrooper in Vitebsk
The attitude towards paratroopers in the region is special. For many years, the 103rd Guards Vitebsk Order of Lenin, Red Banner, Order of Kutuzov, 2nd degree airborne division named after the 60th anniversary of the USSR was stationed in Vitebsk. During the Great Patriotic War, the unit participated in combat operations near Lake Balaton during the Vienna Offensive Operation. Vitebsk paratroopers were the first to enter Afghanistan, and during the war, more than 11,000 of our countrymen were awarded orders and medals, 8 of them were awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union.
A charity fundraiser has been announced for the creation of the paratrooper monument. It is proposed that both work collectives and all residents of the Vitebsk region who are not indifferent to the cause join the campaign.
