What initiatives and proposals are residents of the Braslav district bringing to the public reception?

One of the corridors of the Braslav District Executive Committee led towards the office where the public reception for collecting significant initiatives from the population, constructive proposals on constitutional reform, and other pressing issues of the region and the country was located. Two women were hurrying along this corridor. They were discussing something animatedly between themselves, and upon reaching the right door, they seemed a bit hesitant.

— Don't be afraid, let's go in, — one of them encouraged the Braslav residents. And we all entered the office together.

Anatoly Neverkovich, the director of Secondary School No. 2 and a deputy of the District Council, who was on duty that day, seated us at the table and offered us to introduce ourselves. He was not surprised by the journalist's visit, as there was significant public interest in the issues being discussed. However, at that moment, he was primarily interested in what had brought the young women to the reception.

— We came to thank the authorities on behalf of large families for their care. We met near the house we will soon be living in. The builders, with whom we spoke, promise to complete it by the New Year. This is such a gift for us, large families, who form the absolute majority of future residents. Please convey our gratitude, if possible, to the President, the Chairman of the District Executive Committee, and the construction organization, — having said this, the women got up and left.

— These were not the first visitors to share their joy. Residents of apartment buildings, whose courtyards were improved this autumn with new asphalt, also came with words of gratitude, — reported Yulia Chagarina, head of the Department of Ideological Work, Culture, and Youth Affairs of the District Executive Committee. — There were also proposals concerning socially significant issues of our lives.

Anatoly Safonov, for example, drew attention to the need to improve legislation on gardening associations, on the territory of which huge mansions have been built, and the owners rent them out to vacationers. The associations are turning into tourist complexes, which does not suit a significant portion of their members.

Svetlana Zhilevich from Braslav proposed to review the law on holding mass events, giving the population more freedom of expression, in her opinion.

— The number of meetings held by managers of various levels in Braslav region this year has allowed the public to express their attitude towards the events taking place in the country and to make proposals for improving certain aspects of the current legislation. Apparently, this is why there have not been many appeals to the public reception yet, — believes Yulia Vyacheslavovna. – The situation may still change. The reception will be open until December 29.

At the same time, active discussion of socio-political and economic issues is ongoing in the district on discussion platforms. Such a conversation was held with young people on the initiative of the BRYU Regional Committee. On Thursday, the district trade union aktiv discussed possible changes to the Constitution.

— Our main task, — emphasized the chairman of the Braslav District Trade Union Association, Veronika Sinkevich, — is to work through the constitutional norms that concern citizens' rights in the socio-labor sphere.

The discussion began with the constitutional norm "The right to work," which the trade union aktiv considers it necessary to strengthen. In the new Constitution, it should be formulated as follows: "Everyone is guaranteed the right to work as the most dignified way of self-affirmation, i.e., the right to choose a profession, other types of employment and work in accordance with vocation, abilities, education, professional training, and taking into account public needs, as well as the right to healthy and safe working conditions."

Article 21, concerning the right to a decent standard of living, including adequate food, clothing, and housing, should be supplemented with the words that everyone also has the right to "healthcare, social services. The state ensures the creation of conditions for a decent standard of living and the free development of a person."

Proposals were also discussed and formulated for expanding the guarantees of rights to social security in old age, in case of illness, disability, loss of working capacity, loss of a breadwinner, the state's development of social insurance, and social and medical services.

The participants of the platform discussed with interest the provisions on strengthening social guarantees for workers and the population as a whole, focusing on the issues they encounter in their daily work. Many believe that granting the All-Belarusian People's Assembly the status of a public form of people's power will make it possible to convey the aspirations and problems of all segments of the population in a timely manner at the highest level and guarantee the implementation of decisions made by authorities.
