Since the beginning of the year, 22 people have died in fires in the region
From January 20 to March 20, a series of preventive campaigns are being held to prevent fires in residential buildings. This necessity arose due to the complex operational situation observed in the republic, including in the Vitebsk region. In our region, as of January 23, 2013, there were 92 fires (9 more than in the same period in 2012), and 22 people died (12 more).
All interested services are involved in the campaigns: employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, law enforcement officers, representatives of local executive and administrative bodies, education, healthcare, social services, guardianship and trusteeship, Energonadzor inspections, and others. They inspect citizens' homes and apartments, and conduct awareness-raising activities among the population. On weekends, mobile district commissions, which include representatives of all preventive entities,
will inspect the housing stock of the Vitebsk region, while simultaneously paying attention to cases of improper child care, identifying people abusing alcoholic beverages, and investigating the need for targeted assistance to large families, elderly people living alone, and disabled individuals. The regional department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations appeals to the residents of the Vitebsk region with a request to take measures to bring their homes into a fire-safe condition.
