With care and attention to every child: a regional festival for children with disabilities was held in Vitebsk
- It can be confidently said that the children had their own unforgettable holiday, they had a great time, received gifts, and felt equal among equals. – The Palace of Children and Youth is hosting a particularly warm and heartfelt Christmas tree today, – noted the Chairman of the Regional Council of Deputies, Vladimir Terentyev. – And the children gathered are special – these are children who attend correctional and developmental centers of the region, special schools, groups, and classes for special education and upbringing. I would like to note that children who are homeschooled also received gifts and attention, which they so desperately need. All children should have a holiday, regardless of whether you are an adult or a child, or what your social status is. Reaching every child is not an empty phrase, but a goal that we set for ourselves. I wish everyone health and patience, because raising a special child is colossal work. May next year be as easy as possible for you.
Among those who tried to recreate the atmosphere of miracles are the regional executive committee, the main department for education of the regional executive committee, and the Belarusian Children's Fund. The theatrical performance, where young spectators were literally immersed in the atmosphere of a winter fairy tale, gathered children from all over the northern region. Among the spectators is Lyudmila Batyukova, the mother of six-year-old Dima, who has been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. This is her second time at such an event. Despite the difficult diagnosis, they lead an active lifestyle and try to spend more time outside the home.
– My son attends a kindergarten with an integrated group, – Lyudmila shared. – Last year, we already attended a performance, and my son was delighted. That's why we gladly accepted the invitation this year as well. In my opinion, such events are very important. It's about socialization, which is crucial for children with special needs, and understanding how to behave in public places, what is permissible and what is not, and where one needs to wait for their turn. I must note with regret that people around do not always understand the specifics of the disabilities. Our intellectual disability is not outwardly visible, but sometimes my son's behavior raises questions and negative reactions from some people.
The Director of the Regional Center for Correctional and Developmental Education and Rehabilitation, Marina Fyodorova, wished the children good health on the eve of the New Year.
– New Year is a time of magic, kind fairy tales, and anticipation of a miracle, and a child, regardless of their specific needs, is still a child. And they should feel this festive mood, receive a gift, and believe and understand that Santa Claus will knock on every door where little ones live who believe so strongly in miracles, – emphasized Marina Fyodorova.
In the Vitebsk region, over a thousand children with psychophysical development peculiarities receive correctional and pedagogical assistance in centers for correctional and developmental education.
