The safest road situation in the Vitebsk region is in Polotsk and Braslav, Olesya Seregina, head of the agitation and propaganda department of the traffic police department of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee's Internal Affairs Directorate, told a BELTA correspondent. The regional review competition, designed to identify the best region in terms of traffic management and road safety in the Vitebsk region, was held from November 10 to December 10. During this period, traffic police officers assessed in each city and district center the degree of compliance with traffic rules, and the mutual courtesy of drivers and pedestrians. The use of retroreflective elements by the population, the equipping of bicycles and horse-drawn carts with such elements, and the presence of retroreflective vests for cyclists were also taken into account. The assessment was based on the overall condition of the street and road network, the presence of road signs, automatic traffic control devices, and lighting at night. Among other criteria were the effectiveness of the preventive work of the State Automobile Inspectorate inspectors themselves, and the attitude of the local executive authorities towards solving problematic issues of ensuring road safety. Based on all the data, the responsible commission of the Traffic Police Department of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee's Internal Affairs Directorate summed up the results of the competition and determined the winners. The award ceremony will be held this evening in Braslav. The campaign was carried out with the aim of attracting the attention of all categories of road users to the problem of road safety. -0-
