The world's scariest snake has settled in the Vitebsk Zoo
October 20, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. A two-meter anaconda has joined the collection of exotic animals at the Vitebsk Zoo, Director of the city zoo Alexei Andreikov told a BELTA correspondent.
The reptile, considered the largest and scariest snake in the world, was donated to the zoo from a private terrarium. "Although this species is non-venomous, it is physically very strong and prefers water, so it is difficult to keep it at home," the source explained. At the zoo, a pool has been built for the South American resident, where, as if in the quiet backwaters of the Amazon, it waits for its prey. It is difficult to determine the anaconda's age, but specialists believe that its two-meter length suggests it is young, as adult snakes of this species reach at least 6 meters in length.
Meanwhile, the largest snake at the Vitebsk Zoo is an albino python. Its length reaches 5 meters, and its weight is 90 kg. It was this snake that started the reptile collection several years ago. Since then, the zoo has acquired various rat snakes, an Indonesian python, an Argentine boa constrictor, and even an albino kingsnake with pink eyes and pearlescent skin. In total, the zoo houses seven species of non-venomous snakes.
According to Alexei Andreikov, the zoo's immediate plans include the creation of an exoterarium. It will be located in the new zoo, the construction of which has already begun. The Vitebsk Zoo houses over fifty species of animals, birds, and reptiles. -0-
