The selfless labor of villagers is a guarantee of future successes of the Vitebsk region's agro-industrial complex - A. Kosinets
September 23, Vitebsk / Sergey Kotovets - BELTA /. The selfless work of the Vitebsk region's rural workers has made it possible to harvest almost at the 2009 level under the difficult conditions of the current harvesting campaign and serves as a guarantee of future successes of the region's agricultural complex. This was stated today by the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Alexander Kosinets, at a meeting with the region's delegation members for the republican festival-fair of rural workers "Dazhynki-2010", a BELTA correspondent reports.
The sowing of winter crops and the harvesting of the 2010 crop took place in extremely difficult weather conditions; due to heavy rainfall last year and the abnormal heat of the current summer, the region failed to collect about 600 thousand tons of grain. Although the biological yield in the fields was over 1.5 million tons, the region ultimately harvested about 930 thousand tons in granary weight, which is almost equal to last year's result obtained in bunker weight. In addition, today the region leads the republic in fodder harvesting with a result of 23.5 centners of fodder units per conventional head of cattle, and upon completion of this work, fodder security should be at least 25 centners of fodder units. The largest harvest in the history of the region was obtained in the flax fields; about 50 thousand tons of flax straw will be harvested. "This is a great achievement of rural workers, whose selfless, hard work and potential give reason to optimistically assess the prospects of the region's agricultural complex," Alexander Kosinets is confident.
The land management system in the region has been brought into proper order; in 2011, the grain acreage will be expanded to 500 thousand hectares, half of which will be allocated to winter crops. In the coming days, farms should complete the main sowing work with winter crops, which means that for the first time the region will lay the foundation for future harvests within such a timeframe, the Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee noted.
Alexander Kosinets wished the region's representatives to worthily represent Vitebsk region at "Dazhynki-2010", to have a good rest and, upon returning from the holiday, with renewed vigor and ideas, to make a final spurt to complete the main agricultural work, and then prepare for spring.
The delegation of the Vitebsk region to the republican festival-fair of rural workers "Dazhynki-2010" includes more than 100 grain growers and machine operators, heads of districts and farms, distinguished agricultural workers, including more than 60 winners and prize-winners of republican competitions for harvesting grain and leguminous crops, for harvesting green fodder, as well as the republican review-contest "Land management of high agricultural culture, improvement of machine yards, livestock farms and complexes" in various nominations. -0-
