Home sanatoriums have been organized for the elderly and disabled in the Vitebsk region

– Currently, the "Sanatorium at Home" service is provided in 17 Territorial Centers for Social Services of the Population (TCSSPs) in the region. Staff training takes place within the framework of a trilateral agreement concluded between our committee, the "Gerontology" Medical Center (Moscow), and the Belarusian Republican Gerontological Public Association, with the support of the Healthcare Department, – said Vera Astapenko, Head of the Department of Social Support for the Population and Stationary Institutions of the Committee for Labor, Employment and Social Protection of the Regional Executive Committee.

To provide the new service to a larger number of people, volunteer groups have been created at each department for disabled people and the elderly. These volunteers are active citizens who have recently retired and have plenty of energy.

For example, the "Burning Hearts" volunteer group was organized at the social home care department of the Ushachi TCSSN. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, they visit lonely grandmothers and grandfathers and perform necessary procedures based on doctor's prescriptions. Aromatherapy, herbal tea, massage, music therapy – all this is in their arsenal. If necessary, a psychologist will give wise advice. Volunteers also train other elderly people who wish to contribute to society. "You will complete the course of treatment and gain spiritual vigor," assure the "Burning Hearts" from Ushachi.

– "Sanatorium at Home" is focused not on providing medical assistance, but on improving the quality of life for older people, – clarified Vera Astapenko.
