The Vitebsk region team won the Belarusian Biathlon Federation Cup for the fourth time
Before the final stage, the Vitebsk region team held the lead with a significant advantage (over 300 points), having confidently defeated rivals in every Cup season. However, the intrigue – whether other teams could push them off the podium – remained until the very end.
135 athletes born between 2002 and 2009, representing the national teams of six regions, the city of Minsk, and the Novopolotsk Olympic Training School, participated in the Federation Cup across four age groups. This past weekend, the tournament participants competed for medals in mass start races and mixed relays, determining the best in both individual and team standings.
The Belarusian Biathlon Federation Cup is being held in our country for the fourth time. The Vitebsk region team has won it three times, and this time the team managed to leave their rivals behind and repeat the success of previous years.
The solemn award ceremony for the winners and prize-winners of the overall and individual standings was attended by the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee Nikolai Sherstnev and the Chairman of the Biathlon Federation Andriyan Tsibulsky.
Nikolai Sherstnev noted that if in 2022, for the fifth time, our region's team keeps the Cup, it has been decided that it will cease to be a challenge cup and will remain in Vitebsk forever. Thus, promising athletes of the region are set a serious task – to train in such a way as to prove in the future that they are the strongest!
This year, it was possible to follow the races and support their participants not only from the stands but also online: the competition broadcast was available on the YouTube channel of the Belarusian Biathlon Federation. All willing fans could take part in an electronic prediction contest and win valuable prizes – cross-country skis, ski boots, bindings, and poles. Several hundred fans made predictions and cast their votes for the biathletes who held the lead in the individual standings before the final stage of the BFБ Cup.
The Cup organizers noted that the prize for the winners of this season's biathlon competitions will be a trip to training camps in Murmansk and participation in the "Siberian Ski Track," where weather conditions in March-April allow for ski races.
