Conference call: Alexander Lukashenko instructed to study the experience of the Vitebsk region in growing hybrid rye
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko drew the attention of the governors to the good quality of hybrid rye, its resistance to weather conditions and proposed to adopt the experience of the Vitebsk region in cultivating this crop. The head of state announced this at a republican selector meeting on crop harvesting.
Alexander Lukashenko asked the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee Nikolai Sherstnev about the situation with hybrid rye crops. The governor reported that it has been cultivated in the Vitebsk region for the fifth year, and now it occupies an area of 10 thousand hectares. The yield of this crop is very high: even with incomplete adherence to technologies, it is 70-80 centners per hectare. The President said that he personally observed the condition of the hybrid rye crops and was pleased with what he saw. "I was amazed by this crop," he admitted. "There was terrible heat, I know there are sands (in the field where rye is sown. - BELTA's note). I was amazed at how hybrid rye endures our climate. Excellent. It did not lodge anywhere. This rye stands evenly, like soldiers."
In this regard, the head of state instructed the leadership of all regions to pay attention to this crop, study the experience of the Vitebsk region and, if necessary, expand the sown areas of hybrid rye. Especially since there is demand for grain on the market, with crop surpluses, rye can always be sold. "If we don't need so much rye, we will always sell it on the market. Look at this experience and then report to me," the President said.
The cultivation of hybrid diploid rye is carried out, in particular, on the experimental field of the "Alexandriyskoye" farm, which is often called the presidential one. The head of state, indeed, regularly visits the fields of this farm and personally supervises the progress of agricultural work.
