Agricultural enterprises of the Vitebsk region have begun spring sowing in March for the first time in history

As of today, grain sowing is underway in 13 districts of the Vitebsk region. And at the end of last week, farms in the Beshenkovichi and Chashniki districts were the first to start the work.

According to Ivan Fedorov, Deputy Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee's Agriculture and Food Department, Vitebsk region's agricultural enterprises have never started spring sowing in March in all of history. Specialists have analyzed reports and found that the earliest date for machinery to go out to the fields was April 7-10. It is not yet known what surprises the spring weather has in store, so every fair day is important. Especially since due to the almost snowless winter, there is little moisture in the soil. A total of 280 thousand hectares of grain are to be sown.

The weather also allowed all regions to begin top-dressing winter crops, hayfields, and pastures.
