Seven resource centers for training skilled workers will open by September in the Vitebsk region
Seven resource centers for training skilled workers are planned to be opened by September 1, 2013, in the Vitebsk region, as reported to a BELTA correspondent by Sergey Kovalenko, Deputy Head of the Education Department of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee.
The resource centers are being formed on the basis of the Vitebsk State Vocational and Technical College of Light Industry (for training personnel for the footwear industry), the Vitebsk State Polytechnic Vocational Lyceum (for enterprises in the food industry and service sector), the Vitebsk State Vocational Lyceum No. 1 of Mechanical Engineering (in the field of mechanical engineering), and the Postavy State Vocational and Technical College of Agricultural Production (for representatives of professions related to the maintenance and operation of vehicles). Three more resource centers for advanced training of construction specialists are being created on the basis of the Vitebsk State Vocational Lyceum No. 2 of Builders, the Novopolotsk State Vocational Lyceum of Builders, and the Orsha State Vocational and Technical School No. 110 of Builders.
The resource centers will provide training for students in relevant specialties, retraining of skilled workers, and opportunities for teachers of vocational education institutions in the region to improve their knowledge and skills. Currently, preliminary work is underway for their creation: class schedules are being formed, necessary changes are being made to the operational algorithms of educational institutions, contracts for personnel training are being concluded, and a list of required equipment, machinery, and materials is being compiled. The Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee intends to allocate Br20 billion this year for their acquisition.
Since 2009, four resource centers have been opened in the Vitebsk region: based on the Gorodok State Vocational College of Agricultural Production, the Polotsk State Vocational College, the Vitebsk State Vocational Lyceum No. 1 of Engineering (for information support), and the Vitebsk State Vocational Lyceum No. 4 of Light Industry.
The vocational education system of the Vitebsk region includes 34 educational institutions with an enrollment of 10.7 thousand students. Over the past year, more than Br3 billion from budget financing and about Br1 billion from extra-budgetary funds have been allocated to improve the educational process and strengthen the material and technical base in the Vitebsk region under the state program for the development of vocational education.
