A life safety seminar was held in social service institutions of the Vitebsk region

Семинар по безопасности жизнедеятельности прошел в учреждениях соцобслуживания населения Витебской области
How can violations of labor discipline and improper performance of official duties provoke fires and lead to loss of life? This was discussed at a life safety seminar in the region's social service institutions, held as part of the republican campaign "Unified Safety Day."

– In the Vitebsk region, the relevance of this topic is due to the fact that in the first six months of the current year, 614 people died, which is 52 more than in the same period last year, and this is 38% of the total number of deaths of people of working age, – said Nina Kolymago, Deputy Chairperson of the Committee for Labor, Employment and Social Protection of the Regional Executive Committee.

The seminar brought together heads of social protection institutions where the elderly, children, and people with disabilities permanently reside. These include boarding schools with over 3.5 thousand residents, and territorial centers for social services for the population, whose round-the-clock stay departments (OKP) provide shelter for 628 people. In addition, representatives of territorial centers for social services are part of inspection commissions that regularly visit elderly citizens, of whom there are about 200,000 in the region.

Alexander Fursa, Chief Specialist of the Supervision and Prevention Department of the Regional Department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, reported that as of September 4, 607 fires were registered in the region, resulting in 55 deaths, 45 of whom (almost 82%) were intoxicated.

– The most common causes of fires are violations of the rules for operating electrical networks and electrical equipment, errors in the design and operation of stoves, as well as careless handling of fire. Therefore, the main thing in social protection facilities is to maintain the discipline of employees and residents. Minimizing the consequences of fires and reducing damage from them is possible only through joint efforts, – noted Alexander Nikolaevich.

Svetlana Sinkevich, Head of the Epidemiology Department of the Vitebsk Zonal Center for Hygiene and Epidemiology, reminded the heads of social institutions of the requirements of sanitary and epidemiological legislation, the observance of which will preserve the health of residents in boarding houses and residential care facilities and create safe conditions for people.

Systematic work is being carried out in the Vitebsk region to prevent occupational injuries. Over 10 million rubles were spent on technical re-equipment and modernization of production, and improvement of working conditions for hundreds of people in the first half of the year. However, 13 people died as a result of industrial accidents in organizations in the region over 7 months of the year.

– To influence the situation, it is necessary to pay more attention to the restoration of employees' health, the formation of a healthy lifestyle, and the conduct of medical examinations of workers, – said Sergey Kaminsky, Deputy Head of the Department of Social and Labor Relations, Wages and Labor Protection of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee's Labor, Employment and Social Protection Committee.
