A sergeant from a military unit of the Orsha garrison has been convicted of failing to report hazing incidents

August 24, Minsk /BelTA correspondent/. A sergeant of a military unit of the Orsha garrison has been sentenced by the Babruisk inter-garrison military court to 1 year of imprisonment, with the execution of the sentence deferred for 1 year. This was reported to a BelTA correspondent by the Prosecutor General's Office of Belarus.

It was established that the convicted person, while on duty for the company, witnessed non-statutory relations from senior soldiers towards new recruits, but out of a sense of false camaraderie, he did not stop these unlawful actions of his fellow servicemen and did not report them to his immediate superior. The court's sentence has entered into legal force.

As noted in the Prosecutor General's Office, an important role in solving the tasks assigned to the Armed Forces of Belarus and other military formations is given to the organization of internal service, which, being an integral part of military law and order, aims to ensure strong military discipline, organization, and high combat readiness of troops. "Strict and clear adherence to the rules of internal service ensures the normal life activities of military units and subunits, the adoption of immediate measures in case of combat alert, natural disaster, and emergency situations, and serves as an important means of preventing offenses among military personnel. Deviations from statutory requirements can lead to negative consequences," the chief prosecutor's office emphasized.

It was also noted that, as judicial practice shows, violations of the rules of internal service usually occur in those units where there is a lack of proper statutory order. As a result of joint purposeful preventive work by the Belarusian Military Prosecutor's Office and the command of the supervised military formations, two crimes of this category were registered in the first seven months of 2011. -0-
