"Shagal... Shagal..." returns to the Vitebsk stage
The play "Chagall... Chagall..." will be shown again on the Vitebsk stage, as reported by Alexander Zamkovsky, head of the literary and dramatic department of the Yakub Kolas National Academic Drama Theater, to a BELTA correspondent.
The production returns to the Vitebsk stage in the year of the 100th anniversary of the wedding of Marc Chagall and Bella Rosenfeld. "This is not entirely a restoration of the play. "Chagall... Chagall..." has indeed not been shown to the Vitebsk audience for several years, but it was not written off or excluded from the repertoire. The actual changes are minor: new actors have been introduced, and the venue has been changed. The play will be shown on the main stage. Whether the entire hall or part of it will be filled is still being determined," explained Alexander Zamkovsky.
The play "Chagall... Chagall..." directed by Vitaly Borkovsky received the main prize at the Edinburgh Festival in 2000. It has been shown at prestigious international theater festivals in Italy, France, Germany, Moldova, and Lithuania. This production is a hymn to Vitebsk, the city of the artist's youth, which he repeatedly glorified in many paintings and graphics.
Young actors have joined the creative team – the performers of the main roles Gennady Gaiduk (Chagall), Anzhelika Borkovskaya (Ida), Honored Artists of Belarus Grigory Shatko (Commissar) and Tamara Skvortsova (Stepanovna), and others. Thus, Anastasia Chistobaeva plays the role of Olechka, Chagall's first love, and Dmitry Kovalenko plays the role of the Photographer.
The first performances are scheduled for April.
