For the second year, group houses for calves are being used at the Dobrino dairy complex of Rudakovo OJSC in Vitebsk region (pictured). The new type of housing for the "cold" method of animal keeping has proven itself positively.

According to specialists, young animals feel comfortable in fiberglass hemispheres. At sub-zero temperatures, the entrance to the "bungalows" is closed with a dense curtain. Keeping animals in group houses significantly affects the development and health of calves. They do not suffer from drafts, breathe fresh air, and have sufficient daylight. Young animals have an improved appetite, which leads to an increase in average daily weight gain and feed efficiency.

The material structure of the hemisphere protects animals not only from winter cold but also from summer heat, guarding against sunstroke and heatstroke. The inner surface has a hard, smooth coating that can be quickly and thoroughly washed. The house has no joints or contours where dirt can accumulate. The large entrance is convenient for service personnel and for fresh air access. The tent structure, along with the pen, can be easily moved if necessary.

Currently, the complex has 4 such houses, each housing eight calves. In the near future, the farm management plans to expand the modern residential "microdistrict" for young animals.
