The sixth day of the 'Cherry Festival' drew a final line under a colorful string of cultural and mass sporting events

Шестой день «Вишневого фестиваля» подвел финальную черту пестрой вереницы культурно-массовых, спортивных мероприятий
The sixth day of the "Cherry Festival" marked the culmination of a colorful array of cultural and sporting events.

According to travel agencies and online publications, the "Cherry Festival" is among the top 10 most unique, authentic, and highly visited festivals in Belarus. Although it currently holds the status of a district holiday, it has long since transcended the boundaries of the lake region and the blue-eyed Vitebsk Oblast.

This year, the townspeople welcomed representatives from Latvia, Lithuania, Georgia, Russia, Germany, and Moldova with bread, salt, and cherry loaves. Guests also arrived from neighboring regions of the oblast, partly to participate in the investment forum "GlubokoeInvest-2016".

A number of important investment proposals were announced at the event, concerning the creation of a green pea processing production, the construction of a dairy farm for a thousand head of dairy cattle at OJSC "Konstantinov Dvor", and the reconstruction of the sausage workshop of OJSC "Gluboksky Meat Processing Plant" for the production of smoked and air-dried sausages, etc.

At the exhibition organized within the framework of the investment forum, products from local enterprises, including small and medium-sized businesses, were presented.

Within the framework of the festival, a protocol of intent for cooperation was signed between the Švenčionys District Municipality and the Glubokoe District Council of Deputies, as well as a cooperation agreement between the Glubokoe District Executive Committee and the administration of the Gremyachinskoe rural settlement of the Perm Krai of the Russian Federation, where the "Cherry Grace" festival is held. In Glubokoe, cherries were celebrated by professional gardeners, amateur berry growers who came to the scientific and practical conference on horticulture, poets, musicians, photographers, and folk craftsmen. The culmination of the celebrations was a festive procession led by the Cherry Queen. This year, she was accompanied by Baron Munchausen.

The large cherry orchard, planted on the outskirts of the city in anticipation of the first festival, attracted particular attention from tourists, as did the monumental decorative sculpture "Vishenka" (Little Cherry), called the talisman of the cherry capital. By the way, it is near it that the grand opening of the festival takes place annually. The author of the landmark is the famous sculptor from Vitebsk, a member of the Belarusian Union of Artists, Ivan Kazak.

As part of the current festival, a grand opening ceremony was held for another monumental decorative sculpture, "Family," created by him on the initiative of the Chairman of the District Executive Committee, Oleg Morkhat.

The Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, Vladimir Andreichenko, who was present at the celebration, emphasized how much attention is paid in the country to strengthening the status of the family, social security, and solving demographic problems. As a gift from the National Assembly, Vladimir Andreichenko presented a certificate for the purchase of 70 pairs of shoes from the "Marko" company for large families of Glubochchina.

A frost-resistant sour cherry, bred many years ago by local gardener-breeder Boleslav Lapyrev, has brought fame to the region. Annually, at the festival, employees of the consumer cooperative demonstrate their master class in preparing surprisingly delicious cherry dishes. This year, too, a "Cherry Delicacies" exhibition and tasting of culinary products was held at the "Rodny Kut" shopping center. Maria Naborevskaya, a 4th-category public catering confectioner, and Olga Kashinskaya, head of production at the consumer cooperative's culinary plant, invited guests to sample the aromatic treats. The lively "ethno-party" also sparked genuine interest among guests in Glubokoye. Artistic groups from Lithuania, Russia, Latvia, Georgia, and Belarus danced in round dances together and conducted dance master classes. The accordionists' competition "A Harmonik Hraie-Hraie" added vibrant colors to the celebration, with participation from not only local musicians but also foreign ones. Notably, the Grand Prix of the musical competition was awarded to the youngest participant, 11-year-old Artemy Kazachuk from the Latvian city of Kraslava. The festival's final chord was the "Cherry Pie" auction. Among the first owners of lots worth 1-2 rubles were residents not only of Glubokoye but also of Magadan, Minsk, Verkhnedvinsk, Novopolotsk, Disna, and many other cities. In a matter of minutes, the treat weighing over 15 kg was distributed piece by piece.
