The staff of public environmental inspectors in the Vitebsk region numbers 117 people
February 15, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. The staff of public environmental inspectors in the Vitebsk region numbers 117 people, the chief specialist of the Vitebsk Regional Committee for Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Tatyana Yasiulina told a BELTA correspondent.
Another 23 candidates are undergoing internships and will soon join the ranks of nature defenders. On a gratuitous basis, these concerned individuals promote environmental knowledge, participate in raids by district and city inspectorates, and promptly report violations of environmental legislation. For example, in the Beshenkovichi district, a criminal case was initiated based on the facts of illegal shooting of a roe deer thanks to a public inspector. In the Miory district, ad hoc inspectors organized clean-up events to clear public places of garbage, inspected land plots and identified hogweed thickets, and conducted explanatory work with the population on the need to destroy this weed.
Among the public activists are people of various professions and social statuses - from enterprise managers to retired fishermen, however, they are all united by their love for nature and an active life position, Tatyana Yasiulina emphasized.
For the first time in the republic, on the initiative of the Vitebsk Regional Committee and in accordance with the cooperation agreement with Vitebsk State University, 2nd-year students majoring in "Bioecology" underwent internships as public inspectors for 6 months. The internship resulted in the creation of a student group of public inspectors.
According to the representative of the regional environmental protection agency, this practice is justified because after graduation, many young specialists continue their public activities for nature protection in their new workplaces. The regional committee intends to actively promote the activities of public inspectors and encourage activists. -0-
