The fine for fare evasion on public transport has increased 2.5 times
Transport operators have repeatedly stated that fines for fare evasion should be increased: currently, a ride without a ticket costs 0.2 base amounts, which is only 20,000 rubles today – not a very intimidating figure. As of August 28, the amounts to be paid for fare evasion have significantly increased.
Certain amendments to the Code of the Republic of Belarus on Administrative Offenses have come into force. In particular, Article 18.30 has been amended.
The fine for traveling without a ticket on all types of urban transport, in city line trains, or the metro has increased from 0.2 to 0.5 base amounts (from 20,000 to 50,000 rubles).
Those who have not purchased a ticket for a regional line train or a suburban bus or minibus will now pay 0.7 base amounts, or 70,000 rubles, instead of 0.5.
If a fare evader is found on interregional and international line trains, or on an intercity bus or shared taxi, they will receive a fine of 1 base amount, or 100,000 rubles, for such a trip.
