A joke by a four-year-old Vitebsk resident led to rescuers being called for her mother, Marina Fando, spokesperson for the Vitebsk Regional Department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, told a BELTA correspondent. While the woman was hanging laundry on the balcony, the toddler decided to latch the balcony door. When her mother tried to return to the apartment, the girl did not have enough strength to open the latch. A baby remained in the apartment with the prankster. It was impossible to descend from the 7th-floor balcony, where the woman was locked out, without risking her life, and the involuntary captive did not dare to break the apartment window. Fortunately, a man passing by the building heard the calls for help and called rescuers. Using a 50-meter ladder, employees of the "Vityaz" fire and rescue squad climbed to the second balcony, entered the apartment, and opened the door. According to Marina Fando, the little mischief-maker promised her mother and the rescuers not to play such pranks anymore. Given that this situation posed a threat to the children's lives, the rescuers will not bill the parents. However, if adults had decided to play such a prank, the rescuers' work would have to be paid for, Marina Fando added. -0-
