Swedish Gotland offers Polotsk a project for the construction of a wind farm
June 1, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. The concept of creating wind power generation in Polotsk is being developed by the administrations of the Polotsk City Executive Committee and the island of Gotland (Sweden), Governor of the island Marianne Samuelson told a BELTA correspondent today. She heads the island's delegation, which is on a working visit to the Vitebsk region.
An agreement on the development of the concept was signed by the Chairman of the Polotsk City Executive Committee and the Governor of the island of Gotland. As Marianne Samuelson noted, alternative electricity generation has become widespread on the island and yields good practical results. Swedish specialists are ready to share their developments with their Belarusian colleagues. "The development of tourism, cooperation in the use of alternative energy sources, and the solution of environmental issues are priorities in our cooperation," the governor emphasized.
The island of Gotland is one of Polotsk's 16 twin cities. The administrations of the two territorial units are participating in the cross-border Swedish-Belarusian-Latvian project "Panorama-Dvina-Daugava". The project is funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) and is aimed at developing cultural tourism between the three states. -0-
