Swedish Gotland offers Vitebsk joint projects in energy saving in dolomite processing

June 1, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. The island of Gotland (Sweden) is ready to share new energy-saving technologies in dolomite extraction and processing with Vitebsk. This offer was made today in Vitebsk by the governor of the Swedish island, Marianne Samuelson, at a meeting with the chairman of the Vitebsk City Executive Committee, Viktor Nikolaikin, BELTA correspondent reports. According to Marianne Samuelson, a large dolomite processing enterprise operates on the island, supplying its products for export. Its specialists are ready to share technological innovations with the Vitebsk open joint-stock company "Dolomit" and to assist in implementing technologies for using the heat generated during production. On Gotland, this heat is used for heating sports facilities. During the meeting, the governor also expressed interest in the participation of Swedish businessmen in the creation of a transport and logistics center at the Vitebsk airport. She also proposed organizing a direct flight "Gotland-Vitebsk-Gotland" to increase the flow of Swedish tourists to the Vitebsk region. Another area of mutual interest could be flax production. As Marianne Samuelson noted, the island of Gotland, due to its historical and cultural characteristics, is a huge consumer of linen fabrics. She noted the high quality of Belarusian flax and expressed interest in its supply. Marianne Samuelson invited the business circles of Vitebsk to visit the island in the near future to jointly develop concrete steps with Swedish businessmen to implement these proposals. Vitebsk, along with Polotsk and Miory District, as well as the island of Gotland and Daugavpils District of Latvia, are participants in the Swedish-Belarusian-Latvian project "Panorama-Dvina-Daugava," which aims to cooperate in the development of cultural tourism between the three countries. The project is funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA). A cooperation agreement in economic and cultural spheres has been concluded between Vitebsk and the island of Gotland. -0-
