Systemic improvement of soil fertility will allow the Vitebsk region to reach a yield of 50 centners per hectare - A. Kosinets

August 12, Vitebsk / Sergey Kotovets - BELTA/. Systematic work to improve soil fertility will allow the Vitebsk region to reach an average yield of 50 centners per hectare in the near future. This opinion was expressed today to journalists by the chairman of the regional executive committee, Alexander Kosinets, BelTA correspondent reports.

Today, the region's farmers face the task of reaching a yield of 50 centners per hectare as early as next year. To achieve this, it is necessary to apply about 60 thousand tons of active ingredient of mineral fertilizers and 7 million tons of organic matter to winter crops. In autumn, about 400 thousand hectares of land will be plowed for future grain sowing. The potential of Vitebsk lands, with technologically competent and responsible work, allows for increasing yields and reaching a harvest of 2 million tons of grain in the near future, Alexander Kosinets is convinced.

Over the past two years, significant attention has been paid in the region to improving farming practices, soil fertility, and field contouring. Thus, today, up to 10 tons of organic fertilizers per hectare and about 350 kg of active ingredient of mineral fertilizers have been applied for the harvest, and the contouring of fields has been increased, with this indicator growing by 50% or more in some districts. As a result, during the current harvesting campaign, yields of 50-70 centners per hectare have been achieved on many fields, and the average yield for the region is about 32 centners per hectare, which is higher than last year's.

In addition, a good four-field land use system has essentially been established in the region, which also makes a significant contribution to increasing the efficiency of harvesting campaigns in the northern region. The influence of the region's climatic features due to its geographical location can be offset by technical equipment, as modern energy-intensive machinery allows for various land operations to be carried out within optimal timeframes with high quality. Over the last three years, the region has received over 1.3 thousand grain harvesters, 650 energy-intensive tractors, 600 vehicles, and 57 new grain drying complexes have been installed. -0-
