Filming of the Chagall film begins today in Vitebsk

September 5, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. Filming of a movie about Chagall begins today in Vitebsk, reports a BELTA correspondent. The director of the picture is the famous director, People's Artist of the Russian Federation Alexander Mitta. The main venue for the filming process will be a specially built Jewish quarter, which appeared on the banks of the Dvina River behind the "Belarus" shopping center. Some episodes will be filmed in the historical part of the city center - on Suvorov and Krylov streets. According to his own film tradition, for the first three days from the start of filming, which will be marked by the smashing of a plate on the camera tripod, Alexander Mitta maintains silence in his relations with journalists, promising to share all the details about the film after this period. As previously reported by BELTA, Alexander Mitta, the feature-length film was titled "Miracle about Chagall," but it also has a second title, which, according to the director, more fully reflects the idea - "Chagall the Commissar and Malevich the Citizen," as the film will tell about two geniuses who, by the will of fate, found themselves in Vitebsk in 1918-1921, about their difficult relationship, about Malevich's struggle for young minds. There will also be a melodramatic line: Marc and his wife Bella. When writing the script, the director used the research of Valery Shishanov, Deputy Director of the Vitebsk Regional Museum of Local Lore, "Vitebsk Museum of Modern Art: History of Creation and Collections." Vitebsk museums helped him in his work: the Marc Chagall Museum and the Center for Modern Art. Filming of the movie will also take place in St. Petersburg. As Alexander Mitta hopes, his film about Chagall and Malevich will not only help promote art but also attract even more attention to Vitebsk, where these geniuses created. -0-
