A World War II ammunition depot has been destroyed in the Gluboksky district
April 23, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. A World War II ammunition depot has been destroyed in the Gluboksky district, the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee's Internal Affairs Department's Information and Public Relations Department told a BELTA correspondent.
Local residents informed law enforcement agencies about the dangerous find discovered in the forest near the village of Lavrinovka. Most likely, the shells surfaced as a result of soil erosion during the spring floods. In total, a demining group from military unit 5530, which arrived at the scene, found 4 artillery shells of 105 mm caliber, 12 shells of 75 mm caliber, and one shell of 37 mm caliber.
Another large projectile from a 210 mm caliber rocket launcher was found by agricultural enterprise workers near the village of Olsya in the Postavsky district: the ammunition was unearthed by plows during field plowing.
All ammunition was removed to a safe place and destroyed. -0-
