The Academic Square appeared in Vitebsk as part of the Year of Science
Even before the start of the solemn ceremony, it became clear that the name justified itself: interactive areas of enterprises and educational institutions of the Pervomaisky district of Vitebsk demonstrated some scientific developments and conducted engaging experiments with the participation of children and their parents.
Children enthusiastically played on the banana piano: wires connected to the exotic fruits led to a programmed microcontroller, and pressing the bananas produced piano sounds (a development by Igor Shinkevich, a student of the Vitebsk State Polytechnic College).
Boys and girls also tried scientific shashlik, nuclear soda, soap bubble porridge, and other fantastically interesting things. Having quenched their thirst for knowledge, those present could refresh themselves with treats from Vitebskhlebprom OJSC, and the Vitba Milk and Confectionery Factory.
The square was landscaped not by the whole world, but certainly by the efforts of many, many local residents. Benches, small architectural forms, a mobile bicycle parking, sports bars, lanterns, green spaces – all this was provided by the enterprises of the Pervomaisky district of Vitebsk.
Head of Administration Nikolay Orlov thanked everyone for their invaluable contribution to the common cause. Heads and representatives of the administration and the Council of Deputies of the district, enterprises, educational institutions, and residents of this part of Vitebsk were able to see for themselves that the efforts to beautify the new square were not in vain.
