Investigators are establishing the circumstances of a gas-air mixture explosion in a residential building in Zakharnichi, Polotsk district
Investigators of the Polotsk inter-district department of the Investigative Committee are establishing the circumstances of the ignition of a gas-air mixture in a residential apartment building, where two people were injured, reported the official representative of the USC for the Vitebsk region, Oksana Lazko.
According to the investigation, on the evening of December 5, in the agro-town of Zakharnichi, Polotsk district, a gas leak occurred in an apartment – the place of residence of an 83-year-old woman and her 47-year-old son. The gas-air mixture ignited when the man lit a cigarette near the gas stove. As a result, the apartment walls collapsed, and the family was trapped under the rubble. Before the rescuers arrived, the residents of the building themselves pulled out the pensioner. The man was helped to get out by the employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, informed Oksana Lazko:
– Today, after ensuring safe access to the scene, the investigative-operational group began its work. The victims and eyewitnesses of the incident have been interviewed. Based on this fact, the Polotsk inter-district department of the Investigative Committee is conducting an inspection. Investigators will pay special attention to the causes and conditions that contributed to the incident.
