The Vitebsk Region Employment Service employed twice as many applicants in the second quarter

The Vitebsk region employment service in the second quarter of 2016 employed 2.1 times more applicants than in the first quarter. This was reported by Irina Matveeva, Deputy Chairperson of the Committee for Labor, Employment and Social Protection of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee.

In the first half of the year, 18 thousand people applied for assistance in employment, which is 85% of the corresponding period in 2015. Out of the total number of applicants to the employment service in the second quarter, 8.4 thousand people were employed, which is 2.1 times more than in the first quarter of 2016.

"Although it is not easy, thanks to the persistent position of the region's authorities in ensuring employers fully provide information on available vacancies, it is possible to offer employment options. As of July 1, for example, there were 2.6 thousand vacancies, which is 12% more than on April 1 of this year. Comparing the number of unemployed registered with the employment service on these two dates, it decreased by 9% and amounted to 6.4 thousand people as of July 1," added Irina Matveeva.

To prevent inefficient use of labor resources, in January-June 2016, almost 1.3 thousand organizations in the region were involved in personnel diagnostics. Also, according to operational data, during this period, slightly more than 2.3 thousand citizens were employed due to the creation of new enterprises and industries (70.7% of the annual target). The region has maintained a positive trend in wage growth, although it is being restrained to maintain a balance with the growth rate of labor productivity. The issue of timely payment of wages also remains relevant. According to operational data as of August 1, wages were not paid in 153 organizations in the region (90.8% of them are agricultural enterprises) for a total amount of Br6.29 million. In such conditions, special attention is paid to linking the level of accrued wages with revenue from sold products. Heads of organizations receive wages only after they have been paid to all employees. Other measures are also being applied.
