The medieval culture festival "Rubon" in Polotsk promises to be an event of national scale
It will be held from May 23 to 25 near the walls of St. Sophia Cathedral.
This image project is designed not only to revive glorious historical traditions but also to promote economic development, enhance the prestige and tourist attractiveness of the region. This is how the festival is positioned by its organizers – the Polotsk District Executive Committee, the folk theater of historical costume "Polatskzvaz" and the private enterprise "Gallery of Masters".
In 2010
"Rubon" was held as part of the international tourist project "Bella Dvina", and now it will be one of the initiatives of the Year of Hospitality. The date of the festival is determined taking into account that, if desired, guests and participants of the World Hockey Championship can attend it. Corresponding proposals have already been sent to numerous travel companies. What will Polotsk offer its guests?
— We want to recreate the Middle Ages, which attract our contemporaries with the spirit of romanticism, nobility, and military valor, – said Yevgenia Kovaleva, an activist of the folk theater
"Polatskzvaz".– Each time we try to surprise the sophisticated public with something, so as not to lower the high level of the festival once set, – explained Oleg Khvezhenko, director of the enterprise
"Gallery of Masters", which constantly maintains interest in historical and cultural projects.Alexey Klinishov, Deputy Head of the Department of Education, Sports and Tourism of the Polotsk District Executive Committee, noted that this year the festival will actually combine three festivals at once: in addition to the knightly festival, there will also be a culinary and museum festival. Participants of the international project
"Bella Kuzina" will present dishes of traditional cuisine prepared according to ancient recipes in Polotsk. And museum workers from neighboring countries will exchange experience within the framework of the cross-border cooperation program of Lithuania, Latvia and Belarus. One of the novelties will be a demonstration of medieval life. It is planned that guests of the event will be able to walk through ancient streets, look into the homes of representatives of three cultural eras. To see what they wore, how they prepared food, what jewelry they wore. Armed knights in military armor, their beautiful ladies in luxurious long dresses, monks, artisans, merchants, musicians will create the atmosphere of one of the most attractive historical eras.
A children's playground with a "batleyka" (a traditional puppet theater), animators, and medieval games will be open at the festival. Various amulets, talismans, souvenirs, and samples of ancient weapons can be purchased at a specially organized fair.
