"Solar" water and "wind" light have settled in the Vidzy Professional-Technical College

October 1, Braslav District / Diana Kurilo - BELTA/. Students at the dormitory of the Vydzy State Vocational and Technical College are washing with "solar" water, as told to a BELTA correspondent by the institution's director, Mikhail Smirnov. The water is called "solar" because the sun's energy is used to heat it. Helio-collectors with a capacity of 15 kW are installed on the roof of the five-story dormitory building and make it possible to heat water for 8 shower cabins. On a sunny day, the water temperature reaches 80 degrees without the use of additional heating sources. As Mikhail Smirnov noted, the solar collector is a development of the Belarusian enterprise "Polimierkonstruktsiya". According to calculations, the innovation will pay for itself within 2.5 years. The college received funds for the purchase of the helio-collector thanks to its participation in the UNDP/GEF small grants program. With the support of UNDP/GEF, the Vydzy College also purchased and uses a wind turbine capable of generating 5 kWh of electricity at a wind speed of 6 m/s. Annually, the unit produces 14,300 kW, which saves 21 tons of conventional fuel (here). The "wind" power is used to illuminate the premises of the educational farm complex. Along with non-traditional energy sources for Belarus, the college also uses local types of fuel. The heat generator in the educational and laboratory building runs on wood processing waste and saves the educational institution Br144 million annually. Energy-saving lamps are installed in the classrooms. In total, over Br200 million has been spent on the implementation of energy-saving projects at the educational institution this year. The Vydzy State Vocational and Technical College trains students in 14 vocational qualifications for the agricultural, forestry, construction, and public catering industries. The college has 365 students, including citizens of the Russian Federation. The college owns a 95-hectare forestry training base, which includes a forest nursery; a training farm with a cattle herd, a rabbit farm, an ostrich farm, and gardens with berry bushes. The educational institution rents two lakes and has its own fishing crew. -0-
