A competition for the harvesting of fodder grasses has been announced in the Vitebsk region
Starting this year, an authoritative commission will determine the best in an updated format: for the first time, integration structures will compete in a separate nomination, and the categories of prize-winners among machine operators have been expanded.
As reported in the regional agricultural department, participants will be divided into nominations and categories depending on the type of work and the power of the units. For tractor drivers-machinists, nominations such as grass mowing, raking (windrowing), chopping, hauling, and baling are introduced. For example, in grass mowing, machine operators will compete in two groups based on the working width of the mower. For those involved in baling, three prize places are established for those working on balers-wrappers in stretch film, as well as on round balers.
In each group of each nomination, three prize places with cash prizes are awarded: 1st place - 40 base units, 2nd place - 30 BU, 3rd place - 20 BU. The results will be summarized in October 2019. In addition, district executive committees are recommended to encourage other farm workers who have achieved high production indicators in the 2019 mowing campaign.
Meanwhile, forage harvesting in the Vitebsk region is gaining momentum. According to the committee for agriculture and food of the regional executive committee, grass has already been mowed on an area of 11.8 thousand hectares, which is 4.9% of the plan. In total, this season, more than 1.1 million tons of feed units of grass forage are to be harvested, including mowing grass for the first cut from an area of 240 thousand hectares, harvesting about 650 thousand tons of feed units.
