Scientists assess the condition of winter crops in the Vitebsk region positively

December 31, Vitebsk / Sergey Kochetov - BELTA/. Winter grain crops and winter rapeseed sowings in the Vitebsk region are in good condition. This was reported to a BELTA correspondent by Sergey Yakovchik, Director of the Vitebsk Zonal Institute of Agriculture of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. Monitoring results show that winter crops are viable, despite the low air temperatures at the beginning of December, which in some places reached minus 22 degrees and below. The soil temperature at the depth of the tillering node averaged minus 6-8 degrees across the region, and in some places - down to minus 11 degrees. "The critical temperature for winter grain crops is minus 16-18 degrees," noted Sergey Yakovchik. In total, in the Vitebsk region, winter grain crops cover an area of almost 250 thousand hectares, and winter rapeseed has been sown on 88 thousand hectares. -0-
