Hundreds of paper cranes and balloons will be launched into the sky in the Vitebsk region on the International Day of Peace

Сотни бумажных журавликов и воздушных шаров запустят в небо на Витебщине в Международный день мира

This flash mob will be an effective conclusion to the festive week, which starts in the region today. This was announced by the Chairperson of the Vitebsk Regional Branch of the Belarusian Peace Foundation, Tatyana Tumanova.

It is not by chance that a specific number of cranes – 55 – has been chosen for the launch, as this is how many years the public organization is celebrating this year. By the way, the paper birds were made by the hands of children from educational institutions of the region as part of the long-term volunteer peacekeeping project "Crane," implemented jointly with the education department.

Launching cranes into the sky, symbolizing hope for world peace, is already a good tradition for the Dvina region. However, this year, on the snow-white figures, young origami masters will also leave a message for those into whose hands the "migratory birds" may fall – an invitation to join the peacekeeping ranks for the peace and prosperity of their homeland.

In addition to the flash mob, a number of other events are planned. Thus, in the regional center, the Peace Foundation, together with the city organization of the NGO "Belarusian Union of Women," will hold an information hour "Mothers of Peace Against AIDS" and a "round table" "Women, Culture, and Values: Building Lasting Peace in Every Nation." Representatives of women's communities from Japan, Russia, and Belarus will join the latter event, which once again reminds us that there are no borders for peace.
