Cooperation between the archival services of Belarus and Russia is actively developing at the regional level - V. Adamushko

May 28, Vitebsk / Sergey Kochetov - BELTA /. Cooperation between the archival services of Belarus and Russia is actively developing and is already moving to the regional level. This was announced by Vladimir Adamushko, Director of the Department of Archives and Records Management of the Ministry of Justice of Belarus, in Vitebsk today before the opening of a joint meeting of the archival agencies of Belarus and Russia, BELTA correspondent reports. As an example of such interaction, he cited the publication of a reference book and a collection of documents on the Gomel Governorate. This project was implemented through the joint efforts of Belarusian and Russian archivists, and its presentation was recently held in Gomel. Specialists in other fields of Belarus are also preparing proposals for joint projects, especially as common dates for our history are approaching, Vladimir Adamushko noted. The meeting in Vitebsk will discuss issues of preparing a joint collection of documents on the Patriotic War of 1812, as well as a joint project dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the beginning of World War I, which affected the territories of Belarus and Russia. These projects are planned to be included in the long-term plan for joint work of the archival agencies of the two countries. During the joint meeting in Vitebsk, issues of the state and development of the scientific and reference apparatus for documents of the archival fund of Russia and the National Archival Fund of Belarus will be considered. At the same time, the emphasis will be placed on the introduction of digital technologies in archival practice, and proposals for joint actions in this direction will be discussed, Vladimir Adamushko noted. In Belarus, all archives are working on digitizing their collections, and the republican stock catalog is almost entirely maintained on electronic media. This makes it possible to work more efficiently with researchers and documents stored in the archives. "We have specifically brought this specific issue of archival practice to the meeting to compare positions, learn from our Russian colleagues, and share our accumulated experience in this area," said Vladimir Adamushko. -0-
