MChS employees saved an ancient chapel in the Polotsk district
May 7, Minsk /Vladimir Matveev - BelTA/. Employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations in the village of Myshcheno, Polotsk district, saved an ancient Orthodox chapel built in 1910. This was reported to BelTA correspondent by the head of the press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Belarus, Vitaly Novitsky.
The report of a fire in the chapel, which is located in the local cemetery, was received late in the evening on May 6 from villagers. The chapel is brick, 15 m high and is of historical value. When rescuers arrived at the scene of the fire, there was heavy smoke inside the chapel.
At the time of the fire, no service was being held in the chapel. The suspected cause of the fire is careless handling of fire: a burning candle was left unattended on the table. As a result of the fire, a wooden homemade table was damaged in the chapel, and the walls were smoked. -0-
