A socio-cultural center was opened near Orsha

A socio-cultural center has been opened in the agro-town of Borzdovka. The facility is unique for the Vitebsk region. Under one roof, there are sports and assembly halls, a dance studio, a home economics classroom, and excellently equipped workshops – here boys and girls will undergo labor training, plus a paramedic-obstetric station, a library, and a post office.

The center was created on the basis of the local school in the building of the former rural cultural center. The school in Borzdovka has the status of a secondary school, but in fact it is a basic school – there are no tenth and eleventh grades yet. Currently, 60 children study here, half of them are brought to lessons from nearby villages. There are 15 preschoolers in the kindergarten. The reconstruction of the cultural center lasted two years, and it cost more than one million Belarusian rubles – the building, constructed in 1971, is now unrecognizable.

The school in Borzdovka was once graduated by the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Nikolai Sherstnev – the agro-town is located near his native village. Naturally, he came to congratulate his fellow villagers on the opening of the socio-cultural center:

– The impressions of the facility are excellent, but I wouldn't say that anything struck me: I was very closely involved in the development of this project. There used to be a cultural center here, and the task was to re-profile it and make it multifunctional. Primarily, of course, we thought about schoolchildren who could study and engage in sports and culture here, but we also took into account the needs of the population. We did everything to ensure that the center is in demand not only by children and youth, but also by adults.

The reconstruction of the cultural and leisure center building is another, far from the first and not the last step towards creating comfortable living conditions in the agro-town. Recently, a multi-apartment building for specialists has been built here, gas has been supplied to the village, the school has been renovated, and a sports ground with outdoor exercise equipment has appeared. Next year, according to the Chairman of the Orsha District Executive Committee, Igor Isachenko, plans include the reconstruction of the rural council and the repair of the kindergarten – it is in order inside, they want to update the roof and exterior. New jobs will also appear soon. Everything is being done to ensure that young people see prospects in their homeland. And, as Nikolai Sherstnev noted, this applies not only to the Orsha district:

– It has been almost five years since I returned to work in my native places. I remember my first impressions – they were sorrowful, the periphery was unsightly everywhere. Crossing the border of Gorki and Orsha districts, what did I see in Borzdovka? A multi-apartment building boarded up, weeds all around, neglect, workshops in ruins, the school in a deplorable state. And this is the gateway from Mogilev to the Vitebsk region! And this situation was everywhere. It was in Borzdovka that I decided: first of all, we will invest money in the periphery. Before that, I hesitated for a long time, thinking about where to start when funding is scarce and there is a lot to do. We started from the borders. Tolochin was renovated – this is the entrance to the region from Minsk and Mogilev, then Dubrovno, then Verkhnedvinsk, and this year we are finishing work in Braslav. Consistently, step by step, year by year, we are putting our region in order. We have developed such a program, and I see that we are succeeding.

Beauty and comfort are good, but the main thing, as the chairman of the regional executive committee noted, is jobs. Only then will young people stay in the countryside and in small towns. Therefore, a decision has been made: two large livestock complexes will operate near Borzdovka. One, a robotic dairy farm for 2000 head of dairy herd, is already under construction. Next year, the construction of a modern pig complex will begin. Live and work.
